Call Back Afternoon - February 26th

On February 26th we welcomed our Year in Business students back from their placements for the second Call Back afternoon of the year.

Students joined us from a range of companies including Asahi Beer, ATOS, Cherith Simmons, Enterprise Rent a Car, GE, J&J, McLaren, Mercedes Benz, Microsoft, Oracle, PiXL, PwC, Rank group, SAP, Superdrug, Surrey Chamber of Commerce, The Walt Disney Co, Unilever, VMWare.

Students were undertaking a wide range of roles including Accountancy, Finance, Revenue Management, HR, Marketing, Event operations, Sales Development, IT, Marketing Operations, Business management, Cloud Business management, Customer Success Management and Account Management.

There was a buffet lunch served in the Moore foyer and the opportunity to network with 2nd YIB students seeking placements and also Academics with an interest in the programme. We were delighted that Gloria Agyemang, Head of School could join the lunch and show her support for the Year in Business programme.

The afternoon provided an opportunity for students to learn from each other about the experiences they faced. There was also a series of workshops designed to assist them with the Course work Assessment which they have to complete as part of their Year in Business and which is worth 20% of their final year grade. Dr Chika Oka ran a workshop on the Case Study element of the Academic Assessment while Doreen Thompson-Addo and Lisa Zampetti from the Careers’ Department ran a workshop on the Personal Development Portfolio. Students shared a STAR example within a small group, and were given feedback and guidance.

A detailed guide can be found on the Year in Business moodle page (3rd years) and all students have been allocated a Year in Business Advisor. Students were reminded of the deadline for the Moodle submission of the outline plan on March 30th midday.

The Year in Business Programme officer, Katharine Radford, updated YIBs on a number of areas including workplace visits, Autumn term reintegration meetings, the opportunity to write blog articles and to become a buddy to 2nd year students seeking placements.

At 6pm the students headed down Egham hill for a team building meal at Prezzo and the opportunity to better get to know each other ahead of returning to College for their final year together. Most YIBs still have another 4- 6 months to complete on placement but we know the time will go very quickly and we will be soon welcoming them back to College in the Autumn.
