Great to see YIBs at Call back afternoon - February 4th

On February 4th we welcomed our Year in Business students back from their placements for the second Call Back afternoon of the year. We welcomed students from a range of companies including Asahi Beer, Ascot Wealth Management, Aston Martin, BMW Mini, Deloitte, Ensono, Enterprise Rent a Car, Ethos Farm, Honda, Jaguar Landrover, PiXL, Ricoh, SAP, Unilever, Veenus, Xerox.

There was a buffet lunch served in the Moore foyer and the opportunity to network with students from both 2nd and 4th year YIB programmes and also Academics with an interest in the programme.

During the afternoon there were a series of workshops designed to assist the students with the Course work Assessment which they have to complete as part of their Year in Business.

Louise Ogle and Jo Edmondson, Career Consultants ran a workshop on the Personal Development Portfolio. Students shared a STAR example within a small group, and were given feedback and guidance. Further guidance on STARS can be found on the Careers and Employability website: https://moodle.royalholloway.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=3259&section=9

Catherine Harbor and Justin O’Brien ran a Workshop on Critical Analysis to help the YIBs think about the approach required for the Case Study. They reminded students that they should be making contact with their YIB Advisors and looking to outline the theories they want to cover by end of March and submit a first draft by end of July latest. A detailed guide for the Case study can be found on the Year in Business Moodle page.

YIBs were advised that they could all expect a Placement visit to their workplace (or skype call for the student currently on placement with BBVA in Spain).
YIBs were also alerted to the Peer Guide Scheme which they would be able to sign up to so that they could be matched to a 1st year Management student starting in the Autumn and were encouraged to write a blog article about their placement.

The afternoon concluded with break out groups where the students discussed their placement projects in more depth with those working in similar functions (eg Trade Marketing , Finance. HR)
There was also time for some of the students to do video profiles. Examples of previous YIBs talking about their placements can be found here: http://yibprofile.blogspot.com/

At 6pm the students headed down Egham hill for a team building meal at Prezzo and the opportunity to better get to know each other as they will be returning for their final year together.

Most YIBs still have another 6 months to complete on placement but we know the time will go very quickly and we will be soon welcoming them back to College in the Autumn.
