Have you considered applying for a SME?

SMEs are small to medium enterprises and they too offer placement positions which you may want to look at applying for. SMEs, represent the fastest growing sector of the economy.
According to the Enterprise Directorate, in the UK as a whole, SMEs account for over half of employment (58.7 per cent)

One local SME is called ProspectSoft Placements, based in Stokenchuch, Buckinghamshire. They have won the NUE award for "Best SME Placement provider" for the last 4 years. They see 51% of placement students returning as full time employees : indeed their Head of Marketing was once a placement student!

Royal Holloway School of Management students can meet representatives from ProspectSoft at the lunchtime foyer event (in the Moore building) next Tuesday 10th November (11.30 - 1.30pm)

One advantage of working for a SME can be the considerable opportunity to work directly alongside senior managers and directors thereby providing a real opportunity to get your ideas heard and to shine. Additionally these roles can often provide a diverse and broader opportunity to be involved in different elements of the business with a real chance to see how your contribution is impacting on the bottom line of the business.

ProspectSoft offer placement positions in the following areas http://placements.prospectsoft.com/ :
  • Marketing Assistant
  • Sales Assistant
  • Technical assistant
  • Front -end Web developer.

They have an interesting blog that gives more advice from students on placement, including :

  • 4 reasons I know I made the right decision to do a placement year.
  • Tips I would give a student starting a placement year.
  • Why doing a placement year is the best way to kickstart your careers
